Successful Technology Licensing – Belgrade (Serbia), October 25, 2012

Yesterday, the Intellectual Property Office completed a seminar titled “Successful Technology Licensing,” which was jointly organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization and the Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Serbia. The seminar was intended for scientific research organizations, and its topic were contracts for the protection of intellectual property rights in technology transfer.

The seminar was opened by Branka Totić, director of the Intellectual Property Office, and Olga Spasic, a senior advisor at the World Intellectual Property Organization. On that occasion, Branka Totić emphasized that the role of universities in the development of high innovation potential, stressing the importance of the Center for Technology Transfer at the University of Belgrade, as well as units that deal with technology transfer to the University of Novi Sad and Kragujevac. Director of the Institute pointed out that the activities of the Education and Information Centre of the Institute for the past two years held more than 70 seminars for universities and institutes. Olga Spasic from the World Intellectual Property Organization, said that innovation is now seen as a key tool in the fight against the global economic crisis. In this regard, the Global Innovation Index report released in June of this year, Serbia is ranked high efficiency innovation 7th place in the world.

During the three days of the seminar topics were covered commercialization of intellectual property in the context of the research and development of the necessary infrastructure for effective process of technology transfer and licensing negotiation simulation. Among the speakers were beside Olga Spasic, also Ulf Petruson, director of the Center for Intellectual Property Studies Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, Jan Tracy from organizations STFC Innovations Ltd and Nedeljko Milosavljevic, director of the Center for Technology Transfer at the University of Belgrade.
